Early Years Foundation Stage

Early Years Foundation Stage is the name for our Foundation Stage One (Nursery, Apple class) and Foundation Stage Two (Reception, Blossom class) classes.

We follow a play based curriculum called the Early Years Foundation Stage, where children learn through a mixture of adult led and child initiated activities.

We have a bright, airy, purpose built foundation stage unit with areas such as construction, small world, home corner, cosy book corner, mark making and creative areas to allow our children to independently choose their play experiences. Outdoor learning is a vital part of our curriculum; our large, welcoming bespoke outdoor area provides countless opportunities for exploration, awe and wonder.

We provide a learning environment where our pupils can grow, learn and love in a safe and secure way. All children are encouraged to go beyond what is possible; to think for themselves, to apply their acquired knowledge and skills, to improve and to transform.

Each teacher in our EYFS team is supported by a teaching assistant or higher level teaching assistant. Staff guide children’s development through warm, positive interaction and valuable learning activities. To get the children off to a great start, we spend time getting to know the children before they start at our academy. Children and their parents are invited to ‘Stay and Play’ sessions and we also visit children at home, school or previous nursery settings to discuss children’s needs, likes and interests.
